Cleveland Murder Suspect Arrested After Fleeing From Troopers

For immediate release

Anne Murphy, Public Affairs Officer

Northern District of Ohio
Cleveland, OH
(216) 522-2150

Cambridge, OH – This afternoon, murder suspect Devonte Finley, 29, was taken into custody just north of Cambridge, Ohio.  Cambridge is approximately 120 miles south of Cleveland.

Finley was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for the October 26th shooting death of Keith Jackson, 22.  Jackson was shot to death in a home in the 3800 block of East 149th St. in Cleveland’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood.  Two days after the shooting a warrant was issued for Finley for aggravated murder.  The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) began working the fugitive investigation into Finley’s whereabouts.  During the course of the investigation, members of the task force believed that Finley fled to Greenville, South Carolina.  U.S. Marshals in South Carolina narrowly missed Finley at a family home late last night.  Investigators were then able to learn that Finley was likely headed back to the Cleveland area.

Early this morning, members of the NOVFTF began working with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) to identify the known vehicle Finley was traveling in.  OSHP was able to locate the vehicle in the Cambridge area and attempted to stop the car.  Finley failed to stop for Troopers and fled northbound on Interstate 77.  Finley’s vehicle was eventually disabled by OSHP and Finley then attempted to flee on foot.  He was safely taken into custody by Troopers in the median of the highway. Finley will remain in custody near Cambridge until he can be extradited back to Cleveland.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “The Troopers for Ohio State Highway Patrol are second to none when it comes to police work, their road units and Special Response Teams are true professionals.  The men and women of the Ohio State Highway Patrol kept a murderer from getting back into the city of Cleveland.”
