For immediate release

Cleveland, OH

Toledo, OH – Late this morning, members of the U.S. Marshals led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Duron Thomas, 34. Thomas was wanted by the Columbus Division of Police for murder and felonious assault.

On July 28, 2024, officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 300 block of South Glenwood Ave. When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  One victim, Jacob Coons, was pronounced deceased at the crime scene and the second victim was transported to the hospital.

Days after the shooting a warrant was issued for the suspect, Duron Thomas.  Members of the U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) began working the investigation.  Recently, investigators in Columbus gathered information that Thomas may be hiding in the Toledo area.  Early this morning, members of the NOVFTF began looking for Thomas and they were able to locate him at a home in the 600 block of Berry St. in Toledo.  As officers approached the residence Thomas slammed the door and ran to the second story of the home.  Eventually members of the task force were able to make contact with him, and he ultimately surrendered inside the front door of the home.

Thomas will remain in custody in the Toledo area until he can be extradited to Franklin County to face the pending charges against him.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Dedicated investigative work by members of the task force in the Columbus area shows that the U.S. Marshals Service will never give up on their finding fugitives.  No matter where they run or how long they run, we will find you.”
