Fugitive Wanted out of North Carolina for Assault on Law Enforcement and New Jersey for Weapons Offenses Arrested in Bayville Without Incident

Bayville, NJ – Members of the U.S. Marshals Service District of New Jersey and New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended without incident on May 15 in Bayville a man wanted on charges stemming from aggravated assault on law enforcement with a vehicle in Asheville, North Carolina, as well as weapons offenses out of New Jersey.
Vincent Nelson, 55, was taken into custody following a coordinated investigation involving federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Member of the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force located Nelson in Bayville and safely effected his arrest without injuries to officers, the suspect, or members of the public.
Following his arrest, Nelson was transported for processing to the Ocean County Jail and will face extradition proceedings related to the North Carolina charges, in addition to the pending matters in New Jersey.
“This arrest highlights the strong partnerships between our law enforcement partners in North Carolina, the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force,” said Nicholas Ricigliano, Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of New Jersey. “Through coordinated investigative efforts and information sharing, our task forces were able to safely locate and apprehend a fugitive wanted on violent and weapons-related charges without incident.”

The success of U.S. Marshals task force initiatives, combined with the outstanding relationships forged with other law enforcement agencies, has led to the formation of permanent fugitive task forces, as well as ad-hoc task forces in response to unique cases that pose immediate threat to the public. In 2025, U.S. Marshals Service-led fugitive task forces arrested over 73,000 federal, state and local fugitives and cleared nearly 88,000 warrants.
