Georgia Triple Homicide Suspect Captured by U.S. Marshals in Memphis

Memphis, TN – An investigation by U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Forces in Georgia and Tennessee have led to the arrest of Jerimiah Walker, 19, who was wanted for a triple homicide in Columbus, Georgia.

Today, the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF) in Memphis supported by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, and Memphis Police Fugitive Team arrested Jerimiah Walker.

On February 18, 2023, the Columbus (Georgia) Police Department responded to a shooting at a Motel 6. A father, Michael Carter Sr., 54, and his son, Michael Carter Jr.,19, were shot to death. The wife of the father, Tonya Carter, 50, and a 4-year-old toddler were also shot. Two weeks later, Tonya Carter died from her injuries in the hospital. The toddler survived.

Columbus police obtained Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault warrants for Jerimiah Walker, of Georgia. The USMS Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force out of Albany, Georgia, adopted the case and developed information that Walker had fled to the Memphis area.

Early this morning, the TRVFTF and law enforcement partners tracked Walker to the 2200 block of Eldridge Avenue in Memphis. Deputies surrounded the residence and announced their presence at the door. Walker attempted to escape out a side window but retreated into the house. He finally surrendered and was placed under arrest without incident or injury. Walker was transported to the Shelby County Jail to await extradition to Georgia.

The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force in Western Tennessee. The TRVFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, and the Tennessee Department of Corrections Special Agents. The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
