Jack Chambers Sworn in as the United States Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia

Charleston, WV – Jack Chambers was sworn in as the United States Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia following his confirmation by the United States Senate. Chambers was confirmed by the Senate on Aug. 7, 2026, to serve a four-year term as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the United States Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia,” Chambers said. “I look forward to working alongside the dedicated men and women of the U.S. Marshals Service and our federal, state and local law enforcement partners to protect the citizens of West Virginia, support the federal judiciary and ensure the continued pursuit of violent fugitives and those who threaten the safety of our communities.”

Chambers brings decades of law enforcement experience to the position. He served 26 years with the West Virginia State Police, where he rose through the ranks and served as Deputy Superintendent with the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring from the agency. Following his retirement, Chambers served as Deputy Director of the West Virginia Capitol Police. In March 2023, Chambers was appointed Interim Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police and was later named Superintendent, leading the agency through 2024.

As U.S. Marshal, Chambers will oversee U.S. Marshals Service operations throughout the Southern District of West Virginia. The district’s responsibilities include the apprehension of violent fugitives, protection of the federal judiciary, management and transportation of federal prisoners, execution of federal court orders, investigation of noncompliant sex offenders and other federal law enforcement missions.

Chambers will also oversee the district’s partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service CUFFED Task Force, which works throughout Southern West Virginia to locate and apprehend violent fugitives and other dangerous offenders.

“I have spent my career serving the people of West Virginia, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue that service in this new role,” Chambers said. “Our mission will remain focused on public safety, strong partnerships and supporting the men and women who carry out the important work of the U.S. Marshals Service every day.”

The United States Marshals Service is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency. Its responsibilities include judicial security, fugitive investigations, prisoner operations, witness security, asset forfeiture and other critical federal law enforcement missions.
