New U.S. Marshal Appointed to New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM – David Barnett was sworn in today as the United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico.

Barnett was confirmed by the U.S. Senate Aug. 1 and has assumed the duties commiserate with position and the oath of office.

Prior to his appointment, Barnett served with the FBI for more than 30 years, where his duties included: Intelligence Analyst with the FBI-National Capital Region, Special Agent in the FBI Washington Field Office and the Supervisory Special Agent-in-Charge of FBI Counterintelligence in the Albuquerque Field Office.

"For over three decades, David Barnett has been the embodiment of dedication, loyalty, and service within the FBI," said Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office Raul Bujanda. "As he embarks on his new journey as U.S. Marshal, we know he will bring the same dedication and integrity to this vital role. We wish him nothing but success in this new chapter and look forward to a great partnership in the future."

As the U.S. Marshal, Barnett is responsible for all U.S. Marshals Service operations within the District of New Mexico, including judicial security, prisoner operations, prisoner transportation, sex offender investigations and fugitive apprehension, collaborating with numerous local, state and federal agencies, to safely locate and apprehend violent fugitives.  

“I am honored to serve as the U.S. Marshal and look forward to working with the team to combat crime in New Mexico, " Barnett said. "Together, we will work tirelessly to improve the lives of our New Mexico communities.”

The District of New Mexico is composed of the entire state and its 33 counties.  The district’s main office is in Albuquerque with sub-offices in Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Farmington and Roswell.
