No Escape: Georgia Murder Suspect Found and Arrested in Maine by U.S. Marshals Task Force

For immediate release

Ryan Guay, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal

District of Maine
(207) 780-3355

Portland, ME — Today, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Maine Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF) arrested Dameon Jaquan Thomas, 22, on a State of Georgia warrant for murder and an additional federal warrant from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for possession of a machine gun out of the Middle District of Georgia, Macon Division.

On February 16, 2026, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) requested assistance from the USMS Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force/Augusta in locating and apprehending Thomas. Thomas is accused of murder, along with other co‑defendants, after allegedly shooting a male victim during an altercation on November 1, 2025, in Wadley, Georgia.

USMS investigators determined that Thomas had fled Georgia and was currently in Maine. The USMS-led Maine Violent Offender Task Force, with assistance from the Auburn Police Department, located Thomas at a residence in Auburn, Maine and arrested him without incident. He will be extradited back to Georgia pending legal proceedings.

Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, Kevin Neal for the District of Maine delivered a clear warning to violent fugitives.

“Crossing state lines does not grant escape—it only strengthens our resolve. The United States Marshals Service and our law enforcement partners will remain in pursuit. We will locate you, apprehend you, and return you to face justice. No fugitive is beyond our reach.”

The USMS Maine Violent Offender Task Force is comprised of personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, Maine Department of Corrections, Biddeford Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Maine National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of a state or federal fugitive is encouraged to contact the U.S. Marshals Service at MED.TIPLINE@usdoj.gov.
