Over 400 Guns Off the Streets: Memphis Safe Task Force Continues to Disarm Violent Offenders

Memphis, TN – The Memphis Safe Task Force has announced the arrest of Tony Watson, 40, on outstanding warrants for Burglary and Theft. Watson now faces additional charges including Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Stolen Property.

Acting on investigative leads, members of the Memphis Safe Task Force, working in coordination with the Memphis Police Department, responded to the area of Henrietta Road in search of a wanted fugitive. Watson was detained and subsequently arrested after investigators observed multiple firearms and illegal narcotics in plain view at a residence. Further investigation revealed that one of the firearms had been reported stolen. All firearms and narcotics were seized as evidence.

Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, authorities have seized over 400 illegal firearms, substantial quantities of narcotics, and related contraband. These enforcement actions reflect a sustained commitment to reducing violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from Memphis neighborhoods.

“Each illegally possessed weapon seized represents one less tool of violence in the hands of offenders,” said Director of the United States Marshals Service and Chairman of the of the Memphis Safe Task Force, Gadyaces S. Serralta. “These types of arrests and seizures directly reduce the likelihood of future victims and reinforce the Memphis Safe Task Force’s commitment proactive enforcement, enhanced interagency collaboration, and community protection.”
