Task Force Arrests Murder Suspect

Columbus, OH – United States Marshal Peter Tobin is pleased to announce Teona Brooks was arrested November 9, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois. Brooks was wanted by the Columbus Police Department on warrants issued July 23, 2021, from the Franklin County Municipal Court charging Brooks with murder.

These charges stem from a firearm assault occurring on July 22, 2021, where Brooks allegedly used a handgun to shoot a victim in the 300 Block of South Central Ave in Columbus, Ohio.

The United States Marshals Service Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) adopted the fugitive investigation on July 23, 2021, at the request of the Columbus Police Department. Columbus Police investigators, Columbus Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and SOFAST work together on this investigation.

Investigators believed Brooks fled Ohio and was in the State of Illinois. The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago, IL arrested Brooks in the 2000 Block of East 78th Street in Chicago, IL. Columbus SOFAST is a fugitive-focused, U.S. Marshals Service-led task force consisting of local, state and federal authorities including the Columbus Division of Police, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Cambridge Police Department, Delaware County Probation Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Ohio Attorney General Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Ohio State Highway Patrol, United States Secret Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Zanesville Police Department.
