U.S. Marshals Deputize State, Local Law Enforcement from Across Nation to Secure Capital for Freedom 250 Celebrations

Washington, DC – The U.S. Marshals held a special deputation ceremony at 12:30 p.m. today on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to swear in task force officers for upcoming Freedom 250 events to celebrate our Nation’s 250th birthday. 

USMS Deputy Director Stephanie Creasy issued the official oath to state and local officers from 44 different departments and agencies from across our nation who have volunteered to help safeguard the celebratory events throughout the summer. 

The special deputation grants the officers federal jurisdiction and authority for the time they are here augmenting U.S. Marshals and U.S. Park Police personnel in support of high-visibility patrol operations in and around the National Mall, the Great American State Fair, and other Freedom 250 related venues and events.

“President Trump gave us a clear mandate to make DC safe, and this surge of additional task force officers -- special deputy U.S. marshals -- will ensure we continue to accomplish that mission throughout the summer,” said U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta. “This effort provides a unique opportunity for agencies from across our Nation to stand together in service and ensure our nation’s capital remains safe, secure, and welcoming during the commemoration of America's 250th Anniversary.”
