Washington, DC - The U.S. Marshals (USMS) Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force (FCRFTF), along with Port St. Lucie and Fort Lauderdale police, on Feb. 18 arrested in Hollywood, Florida, a man wanted in the shooting death of his father.
Sheldon Brian Morrison, 41, is alleged to have shot to death his 69-year-old father following a dispute over a family pet.
Port St. Lucie police responded at approximately 7:45 a.m. to the shooting in the 5900 block of Ketona Circle and, after identifying Morrison as the shooting suspect, requested assistance from the USMS FCRFTF-Fort Pierce office to assist with locating and apprehending him for first-degree murder.
FCRFTF-Fort Pierce investigators obtained a vehicle description and determined Morrison was headed toward Broward County. They sent a collateral lead to their counterparts in Fort Lauderdale.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., the Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the vehicle traveling through a residential area in Hollywood, and FCRFTF-Fort Lauderdale members visually confirmed Morrison to be the sole occupant of the vehicle.
A felony traffic stop was initiated with a marked Hollywood Police Department vehicle, supported by several unmarked law enforcement vehicles, and approximately 15 FCRFTF personnel. Morrison refused to stop, driving erratically until ultimately veering off the roadway and into a grass swale.
Morrison was given commands by law enforcement to exit the vehicle and was ordered to walk toward task force personnel who placed him in handcuffs.
Officers conducting a search incident to arrest recovered a 9 mm handgun magazine from Morrison's pocket. His vehicle was secured and towed to the Hollywood Police Department for evidentiary purposes.
FCRFTF-Fort Pierce was notified that Morrison was in custody, and Port St. Lucie Police detectives responded to Hollywood to continue the homicide investigation.
