U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Suspect Wanted for Torrance County Homicide

Albuquerque, NM – On September 21, 2023, the U.S. Marshals Service District of New Mexico – Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (USMS-SWIFT) arrested Steven Banda, 48, who was wanted out of Torrance County, NM for an open count of Murder, that occurred in Moriarty, NM on September 3, 2023.

Following an exhaustive investigation by multiple local, state and federal agencies, Banda was arrested in Northwestern Albuquerque.  No reported injuries to law enforcement, other citizens, nor Banda, were reported.  Banda was subsequently booked into the Torrance County Detention Center, Estancia NM.

“This arrest is example of how the U.S. Marshals Service Task Forces, comprised of local, state and federal agencies, can work to make a difference, not only in the Albuquerque Metro area, but throughout the State of New Mexico,” said Vincent Gambone, Task Force Commander, USMS-SWIFT. “If someone commits a violent crime in our jurisdiction, our task force to include the entirety of the U.S. Marshals Service, will explore all leads and turn every stone to find them.” 

USMS-SWIFT participating agencies in this arrest were: the Torrance County Sheriffs Office, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police, Albuquerque Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations.
