Cleveland, OH – Late this morning, members of the U.S. Marshals led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Trysten Gruss, 27. Gruss was wanted by the Willoughby Police Department for strangulation.
It is alleged that Trysten Gruss created a substantial risk of physical harm by strangling a female victim during an assault incident in Willoughby, Ohio. A warrant for his arrest was issued out of the Willoughby Municipal Court on August 20, 2026. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force adopted the warrant for his arrest yesterday and began tracking his whereabouts. The investigation led task force members to a residence in the 2000 block of W. 91st Street, Cleveland, Ohio today.
As task force members approached the residence and knocked and announced their presence, Gruss made multiple attempts to flee from upstairs windows but retreated into the residence and ultimately barricaded in a third-floor attic space. More law enforcement resources and equipment were deployed to the residence and after several hours of negotiating and searching, team members located and pulled Gruss out of the third-floor attic and placed him under arrest.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Violent fugitives barricading during arrest attempts is unfortunately a reoccurring issue that our fugitive task force encounters. Every time a fugitive flees or barricades it puts the safety of our officers at risk and jeopardizes the public. Thankfully today’s arrest ended safely.”
