‘Wanted Wednesday’ Fugitive Arrested by U.S. Marshals Task Force

Shawano County, WI – On July 11, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force-Madison (GLRFTF-Madison) captured a fugitive on a property near Red Wahl Lane and Country Road D, minutes west of Eland.

Shawn Clark, 44, was wanted on felony warrants out of Shawano County for a sex offender registry violation (repeater enhancer) and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for community supervision (probation) violations. Clark is currently on felony probation following a conviction of first- degree sexual assault of a child (under the age of 13).

On May 31, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office uploaded a wanted poster on their agency Facebook page identifying Clark as a fugitive, making him the subject of their “Wanted Wednesday” series.

On July 6, the GLRFTF-Madison gathered information that Clark was residing on a property just outside of Eland and was actively avoiding prosecution by hiding in a man-made hut in the woods.

On July 11, the GLRFTF-Madison conducted an arrest operation on the rural property. In doing so, Task Force Officers observed Clark running out the back of a makeshift housing structure.

Clark refused to follow Task Force Officer commands to stop running, leading them on a foot chase through the dense landscape. After tripping over roots, Clark fell to the ground and was brought into custody.

Clark may face new charges in Marathon County for felon in possession (firearm) after a loaded .22-caliber rifle was found in Clark’s camp incident to arrest.

The U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in this arrest was composed of officers from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations.
