The Honorable Eddie M. Frizell was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr., confirmed by the United States Senate, and was sworn in on May 10, 2022, to be the U.S. Marshal (USM) for the District of Minnesota.
Marshal Frizell has spent over 30 years serving in law enforcement. Previously, U.S. Marshal Frizell served as the Chief of Police for the Metro Transit Police Department in Minneapolis and St. Paul Area
Marshal Frizell began his career in 1993 with the Minneapolis Police Department. He rose steadily through the ranks, holding numerous command level positions. Highlighted by assignments as the Deputy Chief of Patrol, Inspector of the First and Fifth Precincts, Lieutenant of the Department’s Training Unit and Academy. As well as numerous Patrol and Investigative positions.
Marshal Frizell also spent 32 years of service in the US Army National Guard and Reserve. He served in the Armor/Cavalry branch his entire career. He was assigned to the 34th Infantry Division (SFOR 14) and deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina in support of “Operation Joint Forge” in 2003.
Marshal Frizell took command of 1-94 Cavalry in April of 2009, where he commanded the “Iron Horse Squadron” in Kuwait and Iraq in 2011-2012. The Unit helped spearhead the largest logistical move since WWII, in support of “Operation New Dawn”. The Unit safely escorted convoys over 1 million miles throughout Iraq. Marshal Frizell recently retired with the rank of O/6 Colonel. His awards included Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star (Operation New Dawn) Iraq/Kuwait 2011-2012, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.
Marshal Frizell earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Iowa in 1987, a Master of Science degree in Leadership from Ausburg College in 2005, and a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2015. He has attended the FBI’s National Academy Class #232 and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
