The Honorable Jim C. Arnott was sworn in as the U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Missouri on August 28, 2026, following his confirmation by the United States Senate.
United States Marshal Arnott oversees all United States Marshals Service operations in the Western District of Missouri, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Marshal Arnott began his law enforcement career in 1988, as a Patrol Deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the largest Sheriff’s Office in Missouri, responsible for protecting 670 square miles and roughly 310,000 citizens with a $66 million budget and over 620 full-time personnel. Over the next 20 years, Mr. Arnott worked his way through the ranks, serving in roles such as Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief Deputy, while also serving as lead investigator on multiple homicide and high-profile cases. In 2006, Mr. Arnott was promoted to the role of Chief Deputy, and in November 2008, he was elected to serve as the Greene County Sheriff. Mr. Arnott was re-elected every four years, and served five consecutive terms as Sheriff. Under his leadership, the Greene County Jail became the only Missouri jail to earn national accreditation for its healthcare services while housing an average daily population of 1,200 inmates. In addition to his Sheriff duties, Mr. Arnott has served as Police Chief for both Fair Grove and Ash Grove, Missouri.
Mr. Arnott holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Academy at Drury University, the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy’s 216th Session, the National Sheriff’s Institute’s 97th Session, along with the National Jail Leadership Command Academy. He is Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified as a law enforcement instructor and serves as a Commissioner on the Missouri POST Commission, appointed by Governor Michael L. Parson. Governor Parson also appointed Mr. Arnott to the Missouri Medal of Valor Board, and Governor Eric Greitens appointed him to the Missouri Sheriff Methamphetamine Relief Team, or MOSMART.
