Shannon R. Saylor was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden and confirmed by the United States Senate on June 07, 2023, to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Marshal Saylor joined the active-duty United States Army in 1998 where he served as a Sergeant with the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment, 1st Ranger Battalion, and served a combat tour in Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) in 2003. Before starting his career with the United States Marshals Service (USMS) in 2005, Marshal Saylor served as a Police Officer with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and as a Trooper with the Virginia State Police.
During his USMS career, he served as a Deputy, a Senior Inspector in the Judicial Security Division/Office of Protective Investigations, a Supervisory Deputy, the Assistant Chief Deputy for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the Chief Deputy for the Eastern District of Virginia. In 2021, Marshal Saylor was selected to be the Acting U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia and served in that position until his appointment as U.S. Marshal.
Marshal Saylor received his B.A. in Sociology from Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He is also a lifetime member of both the Non Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA) and the 75th Ranger Regiment Association.
