William G. Hardy II was sworn in as the Acting United States Marshal for the Northern District of Alabama on September 2, 2026, following his designation by the Attorney General of the United States.
Acting United States Marshal Hardy oversees all United States Marshals Service operations in the Northern District of Alabama, including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Acting Marshal Hardy began his law enforcement career in early 2006 as a Detention Officer with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office at the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Later that year, he advanced to the role of Police Officer with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, where he joined their Special Weapons and Tactics team in 2009 while simultaneously serving as an Agent with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force. Mr. Hardy joined the United States Marshals Service in 2010 as a Deputy United States Marshal assigned to the Northern District of Alabama. In this capacity, he served as the District Communications Officer, Jail Inspector, and Tactical Training Officer. Mr. Hardy has played key roles in high-profile operations including Triple Beam, Memphis Safe, and Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful, and has provided security for the United Nations General Assembly and multiple Judicial Security details. In 2013, he was promoted to Deputy in Charge of the Tuscaloosa Suboffice, which housed the Social Security Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Senators Office, United States Bankruptcy, and United States District Court. Mr. Hardy served as chair of the building security team until 2024.
Mr. Hardy received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama, where he played on the football team, served as a Judicial Board Member, and earned recognition on the University’s President's List.
