U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Wilkes-Barre Stabbing Suspect in Maryland

Scranton, PA – Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Tyquan J. Smith, a 28-year-old man with past addresses in Wilkes-Barre and Brooklyn, New York.

On March 10, 2021, officers from the Wilkes-Barre Police Department investigated the stabbing and serious wounding of a person on North Empire Court. As a result of their investigation, detectives later obtained an arrest warrant charging Smith with Aggravated Assault and lesser included offenses. Attempts to find Smith were unsuccessful and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him.

The Fugitive Task Force pursued leads in New York, Georgia, and Pennsylvania until today when, at about 1:30 p.m., they checked a location in the 1000 block of Security Road in Hagerstown, Maryland, and arrested Smith without incident. He was turned over to Maryland officials to await extradition to Pennsylvania.

United States Marshal Pane stated, "It's the Marshals Services' duty to ensure that those charged with serious crimes have their day in court. It is my sincere hope that the affected communities will find some measure of comfort knowing this suspect will face justice."

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 21 state, county, and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the Wilkes-Barre Police Department; the Kingston Police Department; the Kingston Township Police Department; the Bradford County Sheriff's Office; and the Scranton Police Department – all of whom participated in this fugitive investigation.
