Atlanta Homicide Suspect Arrested by U.S. Marshals in Euclid

Cleveland, OH – Late this afternoon, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), the Euclid Police Department, EDGE (Eastside Departments Group Enforcement) SWAT and Ohio State Highway Patrol’s SRT arrested Davonte Lavonne Childs, 27. Childs was wanted by Sandy Springs Police Department in Fulton County Georgia for homicide.

According to police in Georgia, on August 17, 2021, Davonte Childs shot Yemi Mabiaku five times in the back, resulting in Mabiaku’s death.  Another person was shot during the incident but survived. Warrants for Childs’ arrest were issued the next day. 

Investigators in Georgia and Ohio worked on the case over the past two and a half years and in early January of this year gathered information that Childs was hiding in Euclid, Ohio.  Childs was featured as the Fugitive of the Week earlier this year as well.  

Late today, members of the NOVTF were able to locate Childs at a home in the 25000 block of Tungston Ave in Euclid.  When officers approached the home Childs pointed a handgun at the officers. Euclid Police, EDGE SWAT and Ohio State Highway Patrol’s SRT all responded to the area to assist. Eventually, Childs surrendered to officers without further incident.  Two firearms were recovered inside the home.  Childs will remain in custody in Cleveland until he can be extradited back to Georgia to face the charges against him.    

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Law enforcement never gave up on this case and the U.S. Marshals never gives up on finding their fugitives.  Anyone on the run should know you will be found if the U.S. Marshals are looking for you.”
