Fake Badge, No Authority: Memphis Safe Task Force Arrests Criminal TBI Impersonator

Memphis, TN – The Memphis Safe Task Force announces the arrest of Andrew Lee, 47, on a warrant for Criminal Impersonation.

On November 14, members assigned to the Task Force observed a silver Toyota Tacoma picking up a female pedestrian near an intersection before driving to a secluded area.

During a consensual encounter with the driver, later identified as Lee, he immediately claimed to be a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Agent and presented what appeared to be a TBI identification card and badge.

Following thorough due diligence, Task Force members confirmed that Lee had never been employed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. On November 15, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for one count of Criminal Impersonation. Lee was taken into custody on November 16 in Medina, Tennessee.

According to Chad Hunt, Chief Inspector with the United States Marshals Service and Commander of the Memphis Safe Task Force, “Impersonating law enforcement is not something we take lightly. These cases may be uncommon, but they are never overlooked. Our Task Force is meticulous, every detail is checked, every claim verified. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our local, state, and federal partners, this individual was identified, arrested, and will now face the consequences of his actions.”
