U.S. Marshals Major Case: U.S. Marshals Continued Hunt for Double-Murder Suspect

Greensboro, NC - The U.S. Marshals have joined the search for a murder suspect wanted in a June 12, 2025, double-murder in Reidsville and are offering up to $8,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Dexter Lamar Scales Sr., 46, faces two first-degree murder charges in the killing of Shanika Penn, 37, and Samuel Brooks, 42, outside a home in the 500 block of Roach Street.

Brooks had five children, one of whom was a baby at the time of his death. Penn had seven children. 

Police arrested Deaja Lamiya Scales in July 2025 for accessory after the fact. 

The additional money brings the total reward available to as much as $18,000.

Scales is a Black man, standing 5 feet 6 inches. He has black hair and brown eyes.
