On June 12, 2025, Reidsville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near the 500 block of Roach St in Reidsville, NC. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of Samuel Brooks and Shanika Penn, both were deceased. It is believed that Dexter Lamar Scales Sr. is responsible for the murders. On June 13, 2025, Reidsville Police Department issued 2 warrants for Dexter Lamar Scales for First Degree Murder. It is believed Scales fled the area and has not been seen since shortly after the date of the crime.
