Charleston, WV - The U.S. Marshals Service CUFFED Task Force apprehended a Florida man sought in connection with a fatal shooting in Indian River County, Florida, following a nationwide manhunt.
Matthew Allen Waggle, 33, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. at a Super 8 Motel in Dunbar, West Virginia.
Waggle had been identified by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office as a person of interest in the death of 52-year-old Dawn Kriskewic. A warrant was obtained for Waggle for 1st degree murder on August 19. Waggle was considered armed and dangerous.
On August 16, Indian River County deputies responded to a report of a woman lying in the roadway near her residence outside Vero Beach, Florida. Kriskewic was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Following the shooting, authorities developed information identifying Waggle as a person of interest and issued a nationwide alert seeking information regarding his whereabouts.
The United States Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force (FCRFTF) developed information indicating Waggle had traveled to West Virginia and coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service in the Southern District of West Virginia CUFFED Task Force.
Acting on that information, members of the U.S. Marshals Service CUFFED Task Force located Waggle at a motel near Dunbar and took him into custody.
Waggle is incarcerated in West Virginia awaiting extradition back to Florida.
The investigation and apprehension involved coordination between the U.S. Marshals Service CUFFED Task Force, the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, and other federal, state and local law enforcement partners.
