U.S. Marshals Capture Mississippi Murder Suspect in Indianapolis, Indiana

Oxford, MS – Izeekia Sanders, 20, was arrested in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 7, 2026, after a fugitive investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS). Sanders was wanted by the Mound Bayou Police Department for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

On the afternoon of September 20, 2026, the Mound Bayou Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near the 500 block of Stringer Avenue in Mound Bayou, Mississippi.  Upon arrival, law enforcement located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, Armad Gant (20) was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim also sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital and was later released. As a result of the murder investigation conducted by the Mound Bayou Police Department and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office, a murder warrant was issued for the arrest of Izeekia Sanders. The Mound Bayou Police Department then requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Services, Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) in locating and apprehending Sanders. During the fugitive investigation, US Marshals developed information that Sanders had fled Mississippi and traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana. The GCRFTF then requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (GLRFTF) in locating and apprehending Sanders.

On October 10, 2026, the US Marshals located and apprehended Sanders in a vehicle near the 1300 block of 30th Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sanders was transported to the Marion County Jail for further processing and to await extradition back to Mississippi. The Mound Bayou Police Department and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office will continue the murder investigation as things unfold.

Since 2006, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force has focused resources and efforts on the enhancement of public safety and the reduction of violence within the Gulf Coast Region, through the identification, investigation, and apprehension of fugitives wanted for egregious crimes against the community, while ensuring the equal application of Justice, Integrity, and Service for all.
