Boston Police Arrests New Hampshire Fugitive of the Week

Concord, NH – This past Friday, U.S. Marshals – New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force "Fugitive of the Week", Anthony Govan, was arrested by members of the Boston Police Department's Youth Violence Strike Force.

Govan, 28 years-of-age, was last known to be transient in and around Boston, Mass. Govan had been featured as the U.S. Marshals – New Hampshire "Fugitive of the Week" on July 14th, as he was being sought on a Federal arrest warrant for bail violations issued out of the U.S. District Court in Concord, NH. Mr. Govan was on bail on a case involving the possession with intent to distribute narcotics. Additionally, Govan was on bail with GPS monitoring in Massachusetts due to an ongoing state case involving firearms. Govan had cut the GPS bracelet off and stopped reporting to the supervising officers in both NH and Massachusetts

As part of the search for Govan, he was featured as the "Fugitive of the Week" on July 14, 2021. This feature was aired on WTPL-FM, WNTK-FM, WTSN-FM, WEMJ-FM, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link, The Rochester and Lebanon Voice and prominently featured on the internet. The "Fugitive of the Week" continues to be a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of over 500 fugitives since its implementation in 2007. Additionally, the "Fugitive of the Week" was distributed statewide to all law enforcement officers in New Hampshire.

The investigation into Govan's whereabouts all pointed to Boston, so this information was forwarded to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Massachusetts, who works closely with the Boston Police Department on a lot of fugitive investigations. As a result of this partnership and the shared information, members of the Boston Police Department – Youth Violence Strike Force on patrol around Centre and Bickford Streets in Jamaica Plain, where they observed Govan last Friday. Members of the task force were able to make contact with Govan and arrest him without incident.

Govan was transported to the Suffolk County Jail, where he was held pending his initial court appearance on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts bail violations on the firearms charge. Today, Govan was ordered detained on the Massachusetts case and once he resolves this case, he will be turned over to the U.S. Marshals on his outstanding bail violations out of New Hampshire on the Federal narcotics case.

U.S. Marshal Nick Willard said, "The U.S. Marshals Service across the country works tirelessly with its state, county and local partners to arrest fugitives that think they are immune from arrest, just because they cross state lines." Since the inception of the U.S. Marshals - New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 8,218 arrests (Updated as of 12/16/2020). These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
