The U.S. Marshals serves as the enforcement arm of the federal courts and is involved in virtually every federal law enforcement initiative.

Below are the news releases shared across the U.S. Marshals Service’s 94 districts informing the public of the day-to-day activities ranging from fugitive arrests, asset forfeitures, prisoner operations, judicial security measures as well as highlighting individual achievements and success stories within the agency.

  • U.S. Marshals Capture California Homicide Suspect in Kansas City

    Kansas City, MO – United States Marshal Scott Seeling announced today the capture of fugitive Laron Gilbert in connection with the 2021 murder of a retired police officer in Oakland, CA.

  • Suspect Wanted for 2016 Manslaughter on Lake Erie Arrested by USMS in Miami

    Miami, FL – In the early morning hours of January 14, 2024, members of the United States Marshals Service took Alen Gorishti, 33, into custody.  Gorishti was wanted by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in Ohio for a boating incident that resulted in the death of a local fisherman.

    Wausau, WI – On January 12, 2024, the United States Marshals Service captured a fugitive in a hotel parking lot in Houston.

    Peter Jewell-Reigel, 25, was wanted on a warrant out of Marathon County, Wisconsin on a supervised release violation following a 2017 conviction for 2nd degree sexual assault of a child.

  • U.S. Marshals and Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies Capture Louisiana Homicide Suspect

    Memphis, TN – U.S. Marshals along with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team (FAT) captured Jorge Estrada-Gutierrez of Louisiana, 24, who was wanted for a homicide that took place on Christmas Eve in Metairie, Louisiana.

  • U.S. Marshals Arrest More Than 73,000 Fugitives in Fiscal Year 2023

    Washington, DC – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) arrested 73,362 fugitives (28,065 on federal and 45,297 on state and local warrants) in fiscal year (FY) 2023. On average, the agency arrested 293 fugitives per day (based on 250 operational days).

    Washington, DC – The U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a DC man wanted for assault with a dangerous weapon following a Dec. 8 shooting in northwest DC.

    Jaleel Fowler, 25, is alleged to have shot and injured a juvenile inside the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro Station.
