U.S. Marshals' Biographies

Dennis Matulewicz took the oath of office as the Attorney General-designated Acting United States Marshal for the District of Massachusetts on January 20, 2026.

Owen M. Cypher was nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the United States Senate on July 2, 2020 to serve as the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Michigan

The Honorable James Stuart was sworn in as the U.S. Marshal for the District of Minnesota on May 27, 2026, following his confirmation by the United States Senate.

Danny McKittrick was appointed U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Mississippi on February 21, 2018. Since his appointment, he has worked closely with District and Magistrate Court Judges in maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship.

As the United States Marshal, Shepherd leads U.S. Marshals Service activities for the Southern District of Mississippi. Marshal Shepherd began his law enforcement career in 1983 as a patrolman with the McComb Mississippi Police Department. He rose through the ranks of the Department and retired in 2003 as Lieutenant and SWAT Commander.

The Honorable Steven O. Lewis was sworn in as the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Missouri on May 26, 2026, after his confirmation by the United States Senate.

The Honorable Brian Gootkin was sworn in as the U.S. Marshal for the District of Montana on June 1, 2026, following his confirmation by the United States Senate.

Scott E. Kracl took the oath of office as the United States Marshal for the District of Nebraska on June 11, 2018. The U.S. Marshal's Service is the nation's oldest federal law enforcement agency. Marshal Kracl is responsible for the leadership and direction of United States Marshals Service operations in the District of Nebraska.

Marshal Schofield leads the operations of the U.S. Marshals Service in Nevada. Additionally, he serves on the Nevada Joint Terrorism Task Force Executive Board, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Executive Board, and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force executive board.

Upon the retirement of United States Marshal William R. Hart Jr. on August 30, 2025, pursuant to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, Chief Deputy United States Marshal Katherine R. Burns assumed the role of Acting United States Marshal for the District of New Hampshire.

On January 28, 2026, Nicholas A. Ricigliano, Jr. was sworn in as the Acting United States Marshal for the District of New Jersey after being designated by the U.S. Attorney General.

The Honorable David O. Barnett, Jr. was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., confirmed by the United States Senate, and appointed on August 23, 2024, to serve as the United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico.
